Today is November 6th. 2024. One day after the election in the US. As I write this, the first post in the musiclabb blog, the votes are being counted.

Had I written a speech for Kamala Harris during her campaign, I would press on some values.

That democracy is both a strong and powerful foundation of a society, yet, it is fragile and can easily be undermined.

That democracy is based on mutual agreement and respect of one another, respecting different opinions and at the same time agreeing to work together towards the common good of all.

As individuals, we are not only a member of the community, we are, in fact, the community. Just the way we are, with our values and opinions, with our strengths and flaws. That we, a collective of mere humans, all make mistakes, as citizens, as parents, as partners, as workers, as individuals and that we all have the opportunity to grow as human beings in everything we do.

As a leader, it is the fore most responsibility to bring out the best in the people around you, and being in the election for the greatest chair in the world, the personal qualities and values is of utter most importance. The person in the chair will not only be a leader for the staff that runs the country, not only a leader for the country, but a leader that can and will have a great impact on the world at large.

The person in that chair needs to have respect for democracy and law and order, because not even as the president, you are above the law. And while it is human to error, the acceptance of those errors must adhere to the law. Mistakes that society deem outside of the law, is to be handled by the law. And even if you are on  review for actions not committed by you as a person, but you as a leader and responsibility as a leader, you need to adhere to the law.

Being found guilty by the court is a powerful signal regarding a person, its values, and in some cases, as a leader.

It also bares witness to who you select to have around you and who you trust. Since no one, not even the president of the United States, is perfect, you need to have great people around you to be able to lead the country and in some aspects, the world.

I recognise this responsibility and have a great team of people, that I fully trust, and we are all committed to give it our all to lead this country.

Being president is a one person responsability, but not a one person job. It is in all aspect a group effort, by a great team. I’ve got that team, and America, I can yell you that we are ready. I am ready to accept your trust to fulfill the responsabilities as the president of the United States.

God bless America.

Good Luck in the election, Kamala, and hopefully, in your presidency!

Now, what on earth does the ongoing American election has to do with Musiclabb and what I create here? In all honesty, nothing! In fact, even if there are similarities between the political arena and the music arena, it is the differences that appeal to me.

The political arena, local, domestic or international, is competitive, strategic and can be backstabbing. The music arena, in my opinion, is the opposite. Weather local, domestic or international, people can gather around, and enjoy music. And the love of one song, or band, or artist, unite. Wheater you share a similar music taste in all aspects, or just this one, the love for music unites. And it is acceptable, almost expected, to have different opinions of different music. And that’s ok! Everybody is fine with it! Unlike politics, religion or sports or other arenas that divide people with different opinions and views.

The music community is a force of love and unites. Not competing but cooperating and inspiring one another. From the local band that plays covers on the neighbourhood pub to global music giants, we are all in it just for the love of music and we want to share it with others, with you. That is my view anyway.

I hope you’ll find some music that you can relate to or that resonates with you some how.

Stay curious!
